For as long as I remember, all I can think about are Tarpon—building a reputation on this legendary species.
Since the age of five, I've been hooked on these fish. Tarpon are uniquely exciting and frustrating at the same time. Your heart starts pounding when you see them roll and your heart breaks when you can't get them to eat. The adrenaline of a strike followed by an aggressive fight and impressive acrobatics leaves a lasting impression on you. It's that moment that I'm constantly chasing with my clients. Seeing their faces and hearing their screams when they land the fish of a lifetime. That's why I started Grey Ghost.
I'm Capt. Chris Britton
Born in Miami and raised in the Florida Keys, I grew up on the water. As far back as I can remember I've been fishing. Everyone in the Keys fishes. It's a way of life. As a kid in Islamorada, my neighbor and I rode out to an old bar to pick up leftover Mahi carcasses. We rode those out to a sandbar and at five years old I landed my first Tarpon. It was 60lbs.
My family ended up moving to Miami and I got into sports. When I wasn't playing I'd ride my bike to the golf course with an aerator and a cast net, catch bait, and go back home to fish off our dock for tarpon.
Fast forward a few years and I ended up buying my first boat from our old neighbor in the keys. I've fished all over South Florida to the Bahamas but I'm proud to call Stuart home and showcase all that our fishery has to offer.
I've Always Loved The Water
I've spent most of my life on and around the water. It was this love of the ocean that led me to pursue a degree in Marine Affairs and Ecosystem Science from the University of Miami. After working for the Florida Oceanographic Coastal Center, I decided to go full-time into guiding, starting Grey Ghost Fishing Charters.
To this day, I love sharing my knowledge of our local ecosystems and passion for tarpon fishing with clients from all over the world. I love to show people the beauty of South Florida and why it's so important to protect. As a member of Captain's For Clean Water, I do everything in my power to ensure that Stuart will have an even better fishery for future generations.
